Team44’s anchor program is our partnership with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Lurie Children’s is close to our heart, as our founder - Luke van Heukelum - was a patient there.
Last year we launched a pilot with Lurie Children’s to equip 10 pediatric oncology patient rooms with a complete Team44 gaming device setup. Based on the initial experience and overwhelmingly positive feedback from patients and staff, and with the generous support of our donors, we were able to expand the pilot to another 14 rooms earlier this year. We are currently in the process of equipping the remaining 24 pediatric oncology patient rooms, so all 48 pediatric oncology patient rooms at Lurie Children’s will be equipped with our Team44 gaming system in the coming months.
“Through the generous donation of Team 44, every patient now has the chance to engage in distraction through a video game or connect with their peers through on line gaming and take their focus away from their hospitalization. Every moment that the patient is able to focus on something that is a bit normal or takes their mind away from their illness allows their body to relax a bit. During these times the patients may perceive less pain or be less anxious about an upcoming procedure and contribute positively to their healing. We are incredibly grateful to the partnership of Team 44 and look forward to our ongoing work together.” – Rebecca Meyers, Children’s Services Manager
